Match Preview: Reddy and co ‘itching to go’ against Mariners

Tuesday’s clash with Central Coast Mariners in Gosford (kick-off at 4pm WST) can’t come soon enough for Liam Reddy.

The Glory ‘keeper, who is closing in on his 100th Hyundai A-League appearance for the club, fronted the media earlier this week and confirmed that the squad are relishing the prospect of chalking up what would be a fourth successive win.

“Training has been really intense over these last ten days and everyone is itching to go on Tuesday,” he said.

“We’re playing better for longer periods during the 90 minutes, taking our chances and have been a lot better at the back in terms of keeping clean sheets.

“There’s still a lot of improvement in us and we’re never complacent and under this manager; we’ve always taken one game at a time.”

The Mariners did, of course, consign Glory to their first defeat of the campaign back in Round 4 and Reddy acknowledged that the men in purple are keen to make amends for what he described as the team’s poorest performance since Tony Popovic took charge.

“Central Coast have shown this year, especially against us, that if you’re not on your game, they can beat you,” he said.

“We weren’t good that day and we got punished, but we’ve definitely improved since then.

“We were poor in that showing and want to rectify that.

“But they enjoy playing this game on New Year’s Eve, so we know they’ll be up for it.”

Glory will be searching for their third away win of the campaign when they head east on Tuesday, while Central Coast will be targeting a third home victory.

In terms of injury news, Osama Malik, Dino Djulbic and Kristian Popovic will again miss out for Glory, but the hosts have a clean bill of health.

Of the 20 previous meetings between the two clubs at Central Coast Stadium, Glory have won four to the Mariners’ 14, with just two games ending all square.
