Glory Head Coach Adam Griffiths has called upon his side to show a more ruthless edge in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Adelaide United in Northam (kick-off at 2pm, tickets available HERE).
The men in purple impressed in last week’s first game of the 2026 Regional Tour, downing the Reds 2-0 in Bunbury courtesy of second-half goals from Seb Despotovski and Lucas Scicluna.
But while happy with aspects of that performance, Griffiths is looking for further improvement from his charges at Henry Street Oval this weekend.
“The lads have all pulled up well and now we want to take our game to another level,” he said.
“We’ve got more players coming back in to make it more competitive… which is a positive because training levels go up and the quality goes up.
“The intent is going in the right direction.
“What we need to improve is the quality in that final third and make sure we become ruthless.
“That’s going to be the intent again; to be on the front foot, but we want to make those actions count.”
The Head Coach went on to confirm that several players who did not feature in Bunbury are likely to see some action this weekend.
“We’re expecting JK [Jaiden Kucharski] to get some gametime,” he said.
“[Tom] Lawrence will get more minutes and Calem Nieuwenhof should get minutes too.”
As far as Adelaide are concerned, Griffiths believes that they may mix things up in their bid to avenge Sunday’s defeat.
“Obviously they would have learned a little bit from us and we know what to expect from them,” he said.
“They’re a good ball possession team and they’ll try to play through us again.
“They might change their formation; they played a back five last time so they might switch to a back four in this game.
“They’ve got a couple of additional players coming in and it’s going to be another challenge.”
Griffiths went on to confirm that he and the squad are keen to connect with the club’s strong regional supporter base once again.
“It’s nice for us to play games,” he said
“We haven’t had that many, so the last two weeks have been good for us and now we have another opportunity to learn about the squad.
“Playing in front of the fans means everything and I know they’ll get right behind us again.
“They’re our extra player and having that support is always great for us.”
In terms of Adelaide’s team early news, meanwhile, they will be without Jacob Brazete who picked up an injury in the second half of the Bunbury clash, but the likes of Ajak Riak, Juan Muniz and Ben Folami may see more game time having been introduced from the bench last weekend.
Ahead of the game, Glory Men’s and Women’s players will be holding a FREE junior clinic at Northam Springfield FC and at half-time there will be a chance to win some fantastic prizes in the Northam GWM activation.
