Glory will ramp up their preparations for next week’s 2024 Australia Cup Round of 16 clash with Moreton City Excelsior by taking on runaway State League leaders Sorrento FC at Percy Doyle Reserve on Tuesday evening (kick-off at 7pm, admission FREE).
The clash with the Gulls will mark the club’s fourth outing under new Head Coach David Zdrilic who has overseen victories over Armadale SC, Brisbane Roar and most recently, Melbourne City.
And Zdrilic believes that another hit-out is exactly what his charges need as they look to both extend their Cup run and build further cohesion ahead of the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season.
“Tuesday night provides another good opportunity to continue developing our playing philosophy and new identity,” he said.
“Getting some game time minutes into the players, especially those who haven’t featured too much so far, is a key part of our build-up to the Australia Cup Round of 16 tie next week.
“We’re very grateful to Sorrento FC for agreeing to play this fixture.
“They’ve enjoyed a superb season and will provide us with exactly the kind of good, competitive hit-out we need.
“The support we received at Armadale and then in the Cup game against Melbourne City was outstanding and we’d love to see plenty of our Members and fans heading along to Percy Doyle Reserve on Tuesday night.”
Sorrento FC missed out on the opportunity to chalk up an incredible 18th State League win of the season at the weekend when their scheduled away trip to Murdoch University-Melville FC fell victim to the weather.
Led by a couple of former Glory favourites in the form of Head Coach Steven McGarry and Player/Assistant Coach Neil Kilkenny, the northern suburbs side have bounced back to the NPL WA at the first attempt in swashbuckling style, scoring 65 goals and collecting 53 points from a possible 57.
Dean Cummings has been in outstanding form up front, helping himself to 28 goals, while Connor Simpson has found the net on seven occasions and Hamza Hina, Clay Gibbs and Kilkenny have also enjoyed seasons to remember.
The bar and canteen at Percy Doyle Reserve will be open from 6:30pm on Tuesday, serving a range of hot and cold drinks and food.
Do get along and support the lads if you can!
