Match Preview: Epakis out to build on Stirling win

The PGFC Academy First Team have the opportunity to move level on points with early NPL WA pacesetters Floreat Athena when they host Armadale SC at Crazy Domains Stadium, Hartfield Park on Friday evening (kick-off at 7.30pm).

The youngsters chalked up their second win of the campaign last weekend courtesy of an impressive display against previously-unbeaten Stirling Macedonia and another success at the expense of Armadale would see them join Floreat and Perth Red Star on nine points ahead of Saturday’s slate of fixtures.

Head Coach Alex Epakis was understandably delighted by last weekend’s result and is keen to see his charges build upon it on Friday.

“The match against Stirling was incredibly pleasing for everyone involved,” he said.

“Myself and the staff enjoyed seeing the very young team compete and play good football against a very good Stirling side who were aided by a strong support.

“Our players managed the game and the crowd for the entire 90 minutes and came away with a memorable win.

“Going into the next match, we are expecting a similar style of play and we know that we need to be prepared and committed to our performance.

“We have a lot of players who are stepping up into the team and I am excited to see how they go.”

Epakis will be forced to make a number of changes for the Round 5 clash, with Chris Donnell and Josh Anasmo, both of whom shone in the win over Stirling, now away on A-League duty with the senior side.

Armadale, meanwhile, will head into the game still seeking their first points of the season having lost to Stirling Macedonia and Sorrento in their opening two games.

Last year’s corresponding fixture finished in a 1-1 draw, with Ciaran Bramwell’s goal cancelling out Nathan Costello’s opener for the visitors.

The PGFC Academy Under-18s and Under-20s will take on their Armadale SC counterparts on Saturday morning, with the games getting underway at 9am and 11am respectively.

Admission is FREE for Glory Members, so do get along and support the lads if you can.
