Reddy eyeing a bright future

The start of pre-season training may still be a couple of weeks away, but Liam Reddy’s thoughts have already turned to the 2019/20 campaign.

The experienced ‘keeper was a standout performer for Glory during last term’s Premiership triumph and run to the Grand Final and he feels that there is plenty more to come from Tony Popovic’s side.

“I was obviously disappointed that we didn’t get the desired result [in the Grand Final],” he said, “but reflecting on the season that we had overall, I’m very happy with how we performed.

“It was probably one of the most enjoyable seasons that I’ve had personally. Getting my hands on some silverware was a first and that’s something I’ll always remember.

“It’s a season that I’ll definitely look back upon fondly when I retire, but the all the players that were here last year are going to come back hungrier and wanting more of that.

“Winning the Premiers’ Plate is definitely something that we can build on for the this year and I’m looking forward to starting pre-season and then going back to Optus to take on Manchester United.”

Glory will head into the new campaign with the core of last season’s squad still very much intact and Reddy feels that this high level of player retention signifies how far the club has progressed in the last 12 months.

“It’s a credit to the boss, the coaching staff and the club,  ” he said.

“The players also wanted to come here to play in the first place.

“Players are now looking at Perth as a destination they want to come to because of the way we play football, our fans and the success that we’ve had this year.

“At least three-quarters of the squad have been retained and hopefully we’ll bring a few more in and we can build on last year.”

The Sydneysider did, of course, garner plenty of media attention for his role in Glory’s penalty shootout victory over Adelaide in last season’s dramatic Semi-Final at HBF Park.

But does this mean he is now getting mobbed in the streets by adoring fans?

“Not quite!,” he said.

“I get stopped a bit more often when I’m doing the school run, but I don’t have any plans to get a personal media agent at this stage!”

Existing Glory members have until 20th July to guarantee their same seat for next season and take advantage of a price discount and with membership prices frozen, this is also the perfect moment to join the Glory family for the first time.
