Last-gasp win for PGFC Academy First Team

Last-gasp win for PGFC Academy First Team

The PGFC Academy First team returned to winning ways on Friday evening, Jesse Lazzaro’s stoppage-time own-goal proving the difference between the two sides as Cockburn City were downed 1-0 at Crazy Domains Stadium at Hartfield Park.

Clear-cut chances were very much at a premium throughout what was a tightly-fought contest, although Cameron Cook did get down sharply to keep out a Breckan Baker strike midway through the first half.

The respective defences remained on top for much of the second half, before Glory eventually found a way through in the 92nd minute.

Joel Anasmo got away down the right before squaring for fellow-substitute Joe Hobson who burst into the box and unleashed a low shot.

The cluster of City defenders looked set to clear the danger, but instead the ball took at least two deflections, the last of which saw the ball cannon off the legs of the luckless Lazarro and squirm its way past ‘keeper Ben Radonich.

The victory moves Glory to within two points of the top four ahead of Saturday’s trip to 11th-placed Gwelup Croatia (kick-off at 3pm).

The Academy Under-18s, meanwhile, extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points with a 4-1 win and the Under-20s made it eight wins from eight games via a 3-1 scoreline.

Both sides will be in action again ahead of the First Team game at Gwelup on Saturday, with their fixtures getting underway at 11am (18s) and 1pm (20s) respectively.
