Perth Glory Women striker Sam Kerr scored the only goal for the Westfield Matildas in their narrow 2-1 loss against reigning World Champions Germany in Wolfsburg.

Perth Glory Women striker Sam Kerr scored the only goal for the Westfield Matildas in their narrow 2-1 loss against reigning World Champions Germany in Wolfsburg.

Westfield Matildas vice-captain and Perth Glory Women midfielder Collette McCallum linked up with club teammate Kerr with a sublime pass; allowing the striker to delicately chip the German goalkeeper Ursula Holl and give her side the lead.

Germany soon responded through Inka Grings to leave the match level at the interval.

The match was later sealed with less than 20 minutes to play after German striker Martina Müller released a shot from short distance.

Westfield Matildas goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri was able to parry her first effort, but Müller made no mistake with her second chance.

Perth Glory Women and Westfield Matildas striker Katie Gill was impressed with the physicality of the world-s number one team.

“Germany are a very good team, definitely. They are really class,” said Gill.

“The football here is very different to Asian Football. They are more physical in Europe.

“You get a very different experience from these matches and we have to learn how to better adapt to these conditions over the next 9 months.”

ABC TV will broadcast the match on delayed telecast at 3.00pm AEDT Saturday, 30 October.

Perth Glory Women will host Canberra United in Round One of the Westfield W-League on November 7 at Inglewood-s 6PR Stadium, with kick-off at 3pm.
