Highly-rated young defender pledges future to Glory

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that defender Jacob Muir has extended his contract with the club until 2025.

The 20-year-old has made seven ISUZU UTE A-League starts this season after featuring on five occasions in what was his debut campaign in the competition last year.

Having progressed through the ranks of the PGFC Academy, the Perth local gained his first taste of senior action in a 2021 FFA Cup tie against Melbourne Victory.

Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich has been impressed by Muir’s progress to date and believes that the centre-back has enormous potential.

“Jacob is a very bright prospect for this club and an important part of this rebuild and this team,” he said.

“He is still honing his craft defensively, but is a natural ball-carrying centre-back who is versatile and comfortable under pressure, especially in possession.

“He has great vision and awareness and his passing range and techniques are rare in a player in his position and of his age.

“There is no limit to the levels he can reach if his attitude remains as solid as it is now.

“I’ve watched him go from strength to strength as a player and person over the last two years or so and he takes on information and guidance very well.

“I have a very strong belief in both his ability and his character.

“We are delighted to extend his deal as he is a very valuable asset to this club.

“He’s the right age-profile to be a long-term player for Glory and is another shining light to emerge from our Academy and through our ranks, which is a real positive for the program.”

Glory Head of Recruitment, Andy Keogh, also believes that Muir has the potential to be a key player for the club moving forward.

“Jacob is another WA product who has a very bright future,” he said.

“He fully deserves this extension for the contribution he has made to the team this season.”
