Glory Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich is hoping to see his side’s timing improve, especially going forward, in Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Gold Coast Knights at the Croatian Sports Centre in Carrara (kick-off at 6.30pm local time, admission FREE).
The men in purple headed north following last Thursday’s draw with the Mariners and have been put through their paces in a tough training camp since arriving on the Gold Coast.
Zadkovich is now expecting to see a greater fluency from his charges as the countdown to next month’s season-opener against Western Sydney Wanderers continues.
“We’re looking to improve in a few different areas,” he said.
“We need to get better in the timing of our combination play in the mid to front third and be a little bit sharper and more in tune.
“It’s very much a build on what we have been doing.
“The progression through pre-season has been positive, but we’re still very much in our infancy as a group.
“Every day on the training pitch and every game like this is a great chance to refine timing of movement and our understanding of each other’s strengths and weaknesses.”
Glory will face a Knights side buoyed by their victory over Brisbane Olympic in Saturday’s NPL Queensland Grand Final and Zadkovich is expecting a challenging hit-out.
“It would be fair to say that this will be a step up on the NPL games that we had in Perth before we came away,” he said.
“Off the back of the Central Coast game and a hard training week… under fatigue, it’ll be a stiff test against a well-organised and well-coached team.
“We don’t have the luxury of making dramatic changes and giving everyone equal minutes.
“It’s a case of working with a focus towards Round One.
“We’ll put out a pretty strong side and keep building.”
