Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Socceroos midfielder Mustafa Amini has signed a three-year deal with the club.
Check out the new recruit in action HERE.
After bursting onto the A-League scene at Central Coast Mariners, with whom he claimed a Premiership title in 2012, the Sydneysider was signed by German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund and went on to spend the next ten years playing in Germany, Denmark and Cyprus.
He duly returned to Australia to spend last season with Sydney FC, for whom he made a total of 17 A-League appearances.
At international level, meanwhile, the AIS graduate won Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 caps before making his Socceroos debut against UAE in 2017.
Now 29, Amini is thrilled to be opening a new chapter in his career here in the West.
“I’m excited and happy about coming to play for Perth Glory,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of being part of a rebuild of Perth Glory, getting the club back to the top, working under [Head Coach] Ruben Zadkovich and meeting the team, the coaching staff, the admin staff and everyone involved at Perth Glory.
“Personally, I’m excited to have my future sorted and have big goals for myself and for the team.
“I can’t wait to get to Perth and get ready for Round One.
“The record attendance at a Grand Final was in Perth and I know that the fans and the city love their football.
“I want to be a part of this team that’s going to bring success back to Perth and the fans!”
Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich is confident that Amini will prove to be a big hit on and off the pitch.
“To have the quality of such a high-calibre player, but more importantly, a top character in the dressing room, will be huge for the club,” he said.
“He will be a pivotal part of our rebuild and I’m very excited that he’s on board.”
Glory’s Head of Recruitment Andy Keogh, meanwhile, believes that the arrival of Amini represents a major statement of intent on the club’s part.
“Mustafa is a significant signing for PGFC,” he said.
“Not only is he a Socceroo, but he is at a fantastic age to provide experience and quality for our team.
“We are over the moon to welcome him to this great State and hope he flourishes in his prime here, providing our fantastic Members and fans with moments of quality.
“We did a great deal of work on this deal and a big thank you goes out to Buddy Farah whose great professionalism helped get it over the line.
“We believe we have a ready-made asset for our club.”
Amini debuted for Central Coast Mariners aged just 17 and after two seasons with the Gosford club, began the European stage of his career by moving to Borussia Dortmund.
He would go on to represent Randers FC and AGF in Denmark, playing over 100 Superliga games for the latter, before moving on to Cyprus where he was on the books of both Apollon Limassol and PAEEK.
During his time with Australia’s junior squads, he was a part of the side that won the 2010 AFF Under-19 Youth Championship, while at senior level, he made his first start against Lebanon in November 2018 and currently has eight caps to his name.
Further squad announcements will be made shortly.
