Glory swoop for dynamic young duo

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that Pacifique Niyongabire and Antonee Burke-Gilroy have both signed two-year deals with the club.

21-year-old winger Niyongabire, who has been brought on board following a successful trial earlier in pre-season, was previously with Adelaide United for whom he made 21 A-League appearances and scored one goal, ironically against Glory during the 2019/20 season.

Burke-Gilroy, meanwhile, is two years older than Niyongabire and spent his youth career with Newcastle Jets.

The London-born right-back, who can also operate as a wide midfielder, made his A-League debut for Brisbane Roar last term, having previously spent spells playing in both Portugal and the USA.

Both players are looking forward to taking the next step on their respective football journeys with Glory.

“It’s an exciting new challenge and I’m looking to get some more game-time,” said Niyongabire.

“I made my A-League debut in 2018, so it’s been a stop-start so far, but I’m hoping to go forward from here.

“I’m looking to score at least five goals this season and make at least ten starts.”

“I see this as a massive opportunity moving forward in my career,” said Burke-Gilroy, “and I’m very grateful for it.

“I’m very happy to be here, it’s a new challenge, I’m ready for the test and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling.

“My target is to get game-time and establish myself as an A-League player.”

Head Coach Richard Garcia, meanwhile, is excited by the duo’s potential.

“Both are good young prospects who will add depth to the squad,” he said.

“They’re eager to stake a claim in the A-League and push forward in their careers and we’re very pleased to have them on board.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Glory CEO Tony Pignata.

“The arrival of Pacifique and Antonee further strengthens what we believe is a very competitive and well-balanced squad,” he said.

“They are exciting, dynamic young players whom I’m sure our Members and fans will enjoy watching in action this season.”
