Glory snap up exciting attacking midfielder Kamau

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that exciting attacking midfielder Bruce Kamau has joined the club for the 2023/24 ISUZU UTE A-League season.

The versatile 28-year-old is a familiar figure to A-League followers having burst onto the scene with Adelaide United in 2014 before helping the Reds secure a Premiership/Championship double the following season.

In subsequent spells at Melbourne City, Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory (loan), the former Australia Under-23 international took his tally of appearances to 144, scoring 17 goals along the way and adding 16 assists.

He is also a two-time Australia Cup winner having lifted the trophy with Adelaide United in 2014 and Melbourne City in 2016.

During his most recent full A-League season, Kamau found the net nine times for Western Sydney Wanderers and that impressive return earned him a 2021 move to Greek Super League outfit, OFI Crete, where he subsequently made 25 appearances in all competitions during a two-year stint.

He is now excited at the prospect of lighting up the A-League once again, this time with Glory.

“After speaking to not only the Head Coach [Alen Stajcic] and his staff, but also other people that have worked with him or know him in a football capacity, working under him is part of the reason why I want to come to Perth,” he said.

“I believe that he can help me get the best out of myself.

“I want to get back to playing consistently and enjoying my football and I think we’ll surprise a lot of people.

“It’s not a case of going there just to be competitive and make up the numbers in the league.

“I personally want to have as much success as I can with the team and strive to win silverware and championships.

“I wouldn’t be returning to the A-League if I wasn’t confident in my abilities and what I can do on the pitch.

“I’m looking to return to the kind of form and quality that I had in my last season at Western Sydney and not just replicate that, but build upon it and have a better and brighter season.”

Stajcic, meanwhile, believes that Kamau will significantly bolster his attacking options.

“Bruce is a dynamic and creative attacking player that will add extra weapons to our offensive play,” he said.

“He is an experienced A-League player who has continually shown his influence in scoring and assisting goalscoring actions.”

Further signing announcements will be made shortly.
