Perth Glory FC and Brandon O’Neill have mutually agreed to terminate the defensive-midfielder’s contract immediately, to allow the 20-year old to pursue other football opportunities.
O’Neill joined the Hyundai A-League leaders in 2011, appearing 16 times for his home town club.
“I love the club, I love the people of Perth, I’ve grown up here supporting Glory and unfortunately that’s life and that’s football and I’ve got to think about myself. I’ve got to think about the opportunity about progressing and playing and that’s what I’ve done” O’Neill said.
“I’d like to thank all the players at the club from Thwaitey (Captain Michael Thwaite) at the top and down to the younger players. I would also like to thank Ian Ferguson (former coach) who gave me my first professional contract and I’d also like to thank all the coaches during my time at Glory”.
Perth still boasts a number of WA born and bred players in the current squad including star defender Dino Djulbic, Bunbury’s Josh Risdon, young guns Danny De Silva, Cameron Edwards and Matt Davies and winger Chris Harold.
Glory will travel to Victoria this weekend, for the top of the table clash against Melbourne Victory, before returning to nib Stadium on March 14 to host Wellington Phoenix.
