Glory players and staff allowed to head home

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that the club’s Isuzu Ute A-League players and staff have been granted permission to return to Perth on Thursday 23 December and complete their 14-day mandatory COVID-19 quarantine period at home.

The group has been in quarantine in Brisbane since Thursday 16 December after one of the players tested positive for COVID-19.

Glory CEO Tony Pignata was quick to thank the Queensland and WA authorities for their assistance in enabling the players and staff to return to Perth in time for Christmas.

“We have worked very closely with Queensland Health, WA Health and WA Police to secure this outcome,” he said, “and I would like to register the club’s sincere appreciation of their efforts.

“The health and well-being of our players and staff has been the top priority throughout and we are extremely pleased that they will now be able to complete their quarantine at home in Perth.

“I would also like to thank the players and staff for the resilience they have shown under extremely difficult circumstances and our Members and fans for the fantastic support they have provided throughout this period.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Greg O’Rourke, Commissioner, A-Leagues.

“We are delighted with this outcome and, along with Perth Glory, want to thank the Governments of Western Australia and Queeensland, in particular, WA Health, WA Police and QLD Health, for enabling the players to return home, without impact on the community,” he said.

“It has been a very challenging time for everyone involved and this is the outcome we have all been hoping for and working towards.”

A charter flight will bring the players from Brisbane to Perth on Thursday 23 December and they will then be transported directly to their homes in order to complete the remainder of their 14-day mandatory COVID-19 quarantine period.
