More than 350 budding football stars aged from five to 13 have completed two fun-filled weeks of football clinics across Perth and regional WA over the school holidays.
The Professional Development Camp, the Soccer Schools program and the regional holiday clinics in Albany attracted eager fans to learn and play the game with some expert tips from their favourite Perth Glory stars.
Scott Hine whose son Cooper took part in the Soccer School program this week, said his youngster was buzzing with excitement for days after the event.
“My boy really enjoyed the last two days and can’t stop talking about how amazing it has been and the new skills he has learnt… it’s been a fantastic experience” he said.
Matthew Capstick said his son Harrison enjoyed the PDC immensely.
“He was always buoyant and energetic at the end of each day, wanting to tell me or his mum all about it. We try to always remind Harrison and ourselves that if you enjoy an activity, you will try hard, and if you try hard, you’ll get better. So it all begins with enjoying it, and there is no doubt that’s exactly what he did!”
The camps and clinics are an extension of Perth Glory’s Community Department, which is aimed at spreading the ‘gospel’ of the game to schools and every corner of the state.
Perth Glory has also been a front runner in rolling out the “Sporting Schools” program.
The joint initiative with Football Federation Australia, Football West and the Australian Sports Commission is aimed at getting more young Aussies kicking the round ball.
“We have been looking at Perth Glory’s holiday programmes and clinics closely and we can confidently say that the club is leading the way across the nation. Congratulations to Callum Salmon and his team and everyone at Perth Glory” said the FFA’s national participation manager Salvatore Carmusciano.
