Glory land highly-rated and experienced central defender

Perth Glory is delighted to confirm that experienced centre-back Jordan Elsey has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the club.

The 28-year-old has amassed more than 150 ISUZU UTE A-League appearances over the last eight seasons, six of which he spent with his hometown club, Adelaide United.

During his time with the Reds, he was a regular in the side which claimed the Championship/ Premiership double in 2015-16 and also secured two FFA Cup titles.

Following a 2021 move to Newcastle Jets, he made 25 starts last season and a further seven this term.

The 1.88m defender is now looking forward to embarking upon a new stage in his football journey with Glory.

“I’ve always enjoyed my time when travelling to Perth,” he said, “and this is an exciting move not only for me, but also for my family.

“After speaking with [Head Coach] Ruben [Zadkovich], I was impressed with his ideas and am eager to join Glory.

“In terms of targets, Finals is the main goal and I’m looking forward to contributing to this and finishing the season in a positive way.”

Zadkovich, meanwhile, believes that Elsey will prove to be a key figure for Glory on and off the field.

“Jordan is a great addition to our squad,” he said.

“He is one of the strongest Australian central defenders in this league and adds stability and experience to our defensive unit.

“His natural aggression and leadership skills will complement us and really consolidate what we are building.

“He is also a great character to have in the dressing room.

“He is a high-quality person, first and foremost, who gives a lot of himself to his teammates.

“We are looking forward to getting him settled and integrating him into our processes and structures.”

Glory Head of Recruitment, Andy Keogh, is similarly thrilled to have Elsey on board.

“Jordan is a great addition to our squad who is very dominant in both boxes,” he said.

“We are delighted he chose to come to Perth and join our journey ahead.”

Elsey played his junior club football with Parra Hills Knights before joining Adelaide United in 2009 and securing a senior contract in 2013.

His A-League debut came off the bench against Melbourne Victory in October of that year and the following season he made 17 appearances as the Reds clinched the Premiership and then went on to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers in the Grand Final.

Further silverware followed in 2018 and 2019 as United won and then retained the FFA Cup.

Glory’s new recruit ended his association with Adelaide in 2021 by completing a move to Newcastle Jets where he immediately became a defensive mainstay.

In one-and-a-half seasons in the Hunter Valley he featured on 34 occasions and took his A-League goal tally to six.
This term, he has played 635 A-League minutes, had 582 touches and attempted 504 passes with an accuracy level of 85.7%.
