Glory downed by slick City

Glory’s Westfield W-League team suffered consecutive defeats for the first time this season as they were beaten 3-0 by Melbourne City in Bundoora on Sunday.

Bobby Despotovski’s side were looking to bounce back after losing to Brisbane Roar the previous week and welcomed Sam Kerr back into their ranks, but their talismanic skipper could do little to prevent the reigning champions from avenging their Round One defeat at nib Stadium.

Ashley Hatch put the hosts in front after 24 minutes and they doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Kyah Simon teed up Tyla-Jay Vlajnic.

And the game was all but ended as a contest shortly before the break when Mel Maizels did well to parry Hatch’s initial effort, but Japanese import Yukari Kinga slotted home the loose ball to make it 3-0.

The visitors did improve after the break, with Nikki Stanton denied by the post, but Maizels was also called into action to deny the lively Hatch and home skipper, Jess Fishlock who also struck the bar late on with a trademark long-range drive.

The result allowed City to move up to fourth at the expense of Glory who Glory slipped out of the top four for the first time this term.

They return to action on Sunday when third-placed Sydney FC will provide the opposition at Dorrien Gardens.

Kick-off time is 7pm.
