Key Quotes

On the decision to relieve David Zdrilic of his duties:

“The board met over the last few days to discuss the outcome of the weekend and the performance there.

“Where it ultimately got to yesterday was that the decision was made that, in terms of the expectation of the board of where they expect the club to be at in terms of improvement and progression, it just hasn’t been to where they expect.

“Unfortunately, looking forward, they felt that with that rate of progression… it was best to make a move.

“Our hopes this year, given the squad we assembled during the off-season, were and still are, to secure Finals football and they[the board] felt that in terms of the way we started, we weren’t on that path.”

On David Zdrilic’s reaction:

“I spoke to David and naturally he’s disappointed, as you would be.

But in his time at the club, David has always handled everything with dignity and class and he received that news in the same fashion.

“I’d like to go on record to say that David as an individual is a first-class person who absolutely worked his backside off for the club.

He has a tremendous work ethic and is an excpetional character.

On the search for a new Head Coach:

“I won’t go into revealing who we’ve spoken to at this point, but discussions are underway with a number of candidates.

“We are looking at high-quality, well-credentialled candidates.

“Our real focus is delivering a coach who is going to play with a clearer playing style and identity and who can get the best out of this squad and ensure that we’re playing a high level of football consistently, someone who is able to inspire the players and the Members and fans.

“I think a lot of coaches will find our proposition attractive.”

On the timeline for appointing a new Head Coach:

“Obviously we’d like to do it sooner rather than later and we are canvassing candidates to see where they’re at, when they’re available and their level of interest in the role.

“We have another home game next week and then there’s a little bit of a break, so we’re hoping that coming out of that break, we’ll have a new Head Coach in place.”
