Glory snap up promising central defender

Perth Glory can confirm that 24-year-old central defender Darko Stanojevic has joined its ISUZU UTE A-League squad for the remainder of the 2021/22 Season.

A dual Serbian and Australian citizen, Stanojevic has plied his trade in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and most recently, Uzbekistan, where he made 15 appearances for Sogdiana Jizzakh last season as they finished runners-up in the top-flight Coca-Cola Super League.

1.87m tall and equally comfortable operating as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, Glory’s new recruit is looking forward to proving himself in the A-League.

“I would like to thank the club for the trust they have shown in me, which I will try to justify,” he said.

“I am happy to have come to a club as big as Perth Glory, the move represents a big step forward in my career and is great motivation for me to improve and progress.

“I hope to help the club meet its goals and at a personal level, to adapt quickly to the A-League and play well for the team.”

Glory Head Coach Richard Garcia is confident that Stanojevic will prove to be an excellent addition to the squad.

“Darko is a versatile young defender who’s very ambitious and has great potential,” he said.

“He’s comfortable on the ball, left-footed and keen to take the next step in his career.

“Once he finds his feet in the A-League, he will give us another great option within the squad.”

Stanojevic could feature in Glory’s squad for Saturday’s clash with Sydney FC at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium and will wear the number 16 shirt.
