Hot on the heels after signing former Celtic goalkeeper Nick Feely, Glory’s current NPL captain and young custodian Jordan Thurtell has signed a one year contract extension.

Thurtell was named the NYL (National Youth League) Most Glorious player at the club’s prestigious awards night last month and the 19-year old is keen to cement his spot as the team’s number one.

“I’m very happy to be re-signing with the club. It’s going in the right direction and we’re building a great squad for the season.

“My hopes are to play some games in the first team this coming season and to really push for the number one spot” he said.

Glory fought off strong interest from other Hyundai A-League clubs to acquire the services of the Sunshine Coast-born shot stopper in 2014 who has been part of national representative teams since the age of 13.

So far this season he has been making his mark in the NPL team with a string of impressive performances.

The Queenslander will enter his third season in purple colours, as the club celebrates its 20th anniversary.

The in-form keeper has been working closely with goalkeeping coach and former player Danny Milosevic, who has been pleased with his progress.

“I think he’s in a good space”, the former Leeds custodian revealed.

“There’s no rush for Jordan, he just has to continue his development. We see him as a potential goalkeeper for Perth in the A-League.”

Thurtell will join the rest of his teammates at the end of the month for the start of pre-season training.

Meantime, memberships for season 12 of the Hyundai A-League go on sale June 7.
