THIRTY-one days of FIFA World Cup action followed by the most anticipated friendly to be played in Australia this year . . . football fever is sweeping across WA.

The top 32 footballing nations in the world will battle it out for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which kicked-off last night, with the Socceroos’ opening game against France on Saturday from 6pm (AWST).

How will the Socceroos fare in a challenging Group C? Can Germany successfully defend their crown won so convincingly four years ago? Or will Brazil lift an unprecedented sixth World Cup?

All will be revealed after the final on Monday 16 July in Moscow.

Just seven days later, around 60,000 football fans will pack in to Optus Stadium to witness FA Cup Champions Chelsea FC take on local heroes Perth Glory in an off-season friendly to be savoured.

Tickets to the game are still available across most categories here

Perth Glory CEO, Tony Pignata commenced his duties this week and having previously been involved with friendly matches involving Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool, is ideally placed to appreciate the value of the match to the Glory,

“It’s certainly going to be a fantastic occasion for the Club. For the squad to play together for the first time in front of what is sure to be a capacity crowd, in a magnificent new Stadium and against the 2018 FA Cup winners is something we can’t wait to experience,” said Pignata.

“We know that Chelsea will field an outstanding side. We are closely monitoring the selection of national teams ahead of the FIFA World Cup and many of the Chelsea stars aren’t at the tournament which means they will be vying for selection to play in Perth.”

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the Glory fans to see our team play at home against one of the most celebrated football teams in the world, we have no doubt Chelsea will be fielding a star-studded team when they run onto the Optus Stadium pitch.”

Chelsea will embark on a series of fan engagement events in the build-up to the game with the FA Cup securing its own seat on the plane over – making the whole week a can’t-miss for football fans everywhere.
