Perth Glory Football Club is delighted to announced Ian Ferguson has signed a new 2-year deal to remain as coach of the club until the end of 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season.

“It-s fantastic to have Ian on board for another two years,” Perth Glory Chief Executive Paul Kelly said.

“We’re stoked that he’s with the club for another two years. Two years provides stability at the club,” Kelly said.

“If you look at where we were 12 months ago and where we are now … he’s done a fantastic job. But the job is not done yet.”

“He’s been under pressure and he’s handled it admirably. The proof is in the pudding, it has been our best season in the A-League.”

Having coached Perth Glory to third spot in his first full season in charge, Ferguson was excited to be given the opportunity to continue his reign.

“It means everything … I’m absolutely delighted,” Ferguson said.

“To get it out of the way now, before the finals, is a big relief for me.”

“Now i have the opportunity to take the club forward for another two years,

“It gives us the chance to continue to build on what we have done so far this season.”

With his future now secured, Ferguson said the club needed to add to what they’ve achieved so far in their best A-League campaign over the off-season to ensure future success, regardless of how they fared in the finals.

“We’ve got a good core of players here, now the next plan is to bring in younger ones whether they be from WA or from overseas … now it’s just about trying to add that energy and mobility,” the coach said.

“That’s the two to three year plan I had with the CEO when we sat down and first discussed things. There’s still a lot of work to be done here.”

Perth Glory will start their 2012 Hyundai A-League finals series this Sunday at home against Melbourne Heart.
