Football coverage in Australia continues to reach new audiences with the historic announcement ABC radio will cover every Perth Glory Hyundai A-League match for the next four years.

ABC’s radio coverage in Australia is unsurpassed which means Perth Glory fans will be able to listen to all the games live via ABC Local Radio, Grandstand Digital Radio, mobile App and online streaming.

Senior Sports Broadcaster for Grandstand Perth, Clint Wheeldon, called the majority of Glory’s home games last season and will again lead the commentary team which features former Socceroos players Stan Lazaridis and Travis Dodd.

“I can’t wait to step up our coverage of the Perth Glory,” Wheeldon said.

“Stan Lazaridis is an outstanding expert commentator and with Travis Dodd on the touchline expanding our coverage, it’s going to be a massive season.”

“Perth Glory supporters, whether they’re fishing off Esperance or working in Port Hedland will be able to hear every home and away Glory match throughout the season,” he added.

Perth Glory General Manager Anthony Radich says the deal is great news for all involved.

“This announcement is a coup for our sport and for the Perth Glory Football Club brand. The ABC and Football Federation Australia are to be congratulated on the deal,” Radich said.

“It is fantastic news for our fans and also opens up our club to a new audience and new possibilities – it-s something we-re obviously very excited by.”

“We are especially looking forward to working closely with the ABC local radio and the commentary team of Clint, Stan and our very own Travis Dodd,” he said.

ABC Radio has always been a strong supporter of Australian football having broadcast all the Socceroos’ FIFA World Cup qualifiers and major internationals for the past 30 years as well as a steady increase in the Hyundai A-League since the competition-s inception in 2005.

FFA CEO David Gallop was similarly excited by the new agreement and football-s breakthrough into the mainstream of Australian society.

“The national radio broadcaster adds significantly to our reach at a time when audiences for the A-League are booming and there-s a massive surge in interest in football.”

Perth Glory’s opening game against Adelaide United will be covered on 720 ABC Perth and 891 ABC Adelaide.
