‘Devestating’ loss to spur on glory girls

Perth Glory and Westfield Matildas striker Kate Gill says her side is ready for the challenge that awaits them on Sunday afternoon when they take on Newcastle Jets at Inglewood-s 6PR Stadium.

Last weekend saw Perth go down to an injury-time goal from Brisbane Roar striker and former Glory player Lisa De Vanna, while Newcastle is coming off a shock 2-1 win over Westfield W-League Champions Sydney FC.

“We were definitely unlucky against Brisbane,” she said.

“To go down in the 93rd minute after such a dominant performance, especially in the second half, was just devastating.

“Training has been good this week and the girls have responded well from the weekend-s result.

“It will be the first time I play against Newcastle so it will be a bit of a weird situation as I still know quite a few of the girls and keep in touch with them.

“They (Newcastle) had a good win last weekend so it will be interesting to see how we match up, but I-m confident we will be able to put in another solid performance and take home the points.”

Returning to the Glory squad is utility Stacey Learmont after missing the Brisbane contest and Jaymee Gibbons is set to play despite being stretchered off with an ankle injury against the Roar.

Kick-off against Newcastle will be at 5pm.
