Glory skipper Sam Kerr has started 2018 in exactly the same style with which she finished 2017; by taking out an award.
The Westfield W-League Julie Dolan Medal, NWSL MVP, NWSL Golden Boot, WA Young Australian of the Year and Women’s Health Sportswoman of the Year were just some of the honours claimed by the 24-year-old in an incredible 12 months.
And that run has now continued in the New Year with the announcement that she has been named the PFA W-League Player of the Month for December.
Kerr edged out Newcastle Jets’ American import Arin Gilliland for the accolade, with her two appearances over the course of the month yielding a winning goal against Western Sydney and a second-half hat-trick during the enthralling 3-3 draw with the Newcastle Jets in Round 8.
Voted on by the PFA’s W-League-based members, Kerr said she was honoured to gain recognition from her peers.
“It’s obviously an honour to win this award with so many great players in the league and so many great performances throughout the month,” she said.
“I can’t thank my teammates at Glory enough. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of this great team and am very proud to play for Glory.”
PFA Executive Lydia Williams paid tribute to Kerr for what she has achieved and her ability to constantly perform at an elite level.
“Sam continues to amaze and this award is a small cherry on top of what has been a truly phenomenal year for her,” she said.
“There were a number of players who have had a fantastic past month in the W-League and that has reflected in the quality and standard of the matches.”
The PFA W-League Player of the Month is proudly supported by PFA major partners LUCRF Super, Victoria University and Travellers Choice.
You can see Kerr and our other W-League stars in action on Sunday when they face Sydney FC in a crunch clash at Dorrien Gardens.
Kick off is at 7pm.
