Perth Glory defender Jamie Coyne will miss the club’s big match against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday after being unable to overcome a thigh strain in time to fly out with team mates on Friday.
Perth Glory defender Jamie Coyne will miss the club-s big match against Wellington Phoenix after being unable to overcome a thigh strain in time to fly out with team mates on Friday.
Coyne picked up a knock against Melbourne last Sunday and was unable to train fully during the week. While scans cleared him of any significant damage there was a risk he could further aggravate the injury by playing against the Phoenix.
“Jamie was close in terms of selection but we didn-t want to take any risks that could have seen him out of action for a longer time,” Mitchell said.
“Unfortunately he-s had a few knocks this season but he-d come back in and done well for us so it-s a bit of a blow.
“We-re fortunate to have cover in each position this season and whoever comes in will do a job for us.”
Youngster Ludovic Boi has also missed the flight across the Tasman after succumbing to a hamstring strain at Thursday-s training session. The injury is ill-timed for the 20 year old who was pushing hard to establish his credentials at the top level after making his Hyundai A-League debut last week against the Victory.
Youth team utility Ryan Pearson has travelled as part of a 16 man Glory squad and could make his first senior appearance on Sunday.
