Perth Glory is delighted to announce that experienced central defender Lachlan Barr has joined the club for the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.
The 29-year-old spent the last three seasons with his home-state club, Adelaide United, having previously played in both Germany and England.
He is now looking forward to starting a fresh chapter in his career as part of Glory’s exciting, new-look squad.
“When [Glory Football Director] Stan Lazaridis asked me if I was interested in coming over to Perth, I didn’t hesitate at the offer that was made to me,” he said.
“Perth Glory, who have been in the league since day one, are a massive club with a great supporter base.
“Given the fact that Glory is the only A-League club in WA, it means we have the potential to get a lot of fans out to games and to fill HBF Park.
“With the appointment of David Zdrilic and Tomi Vidovic as Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach, I think we can achieve something special as a group and entertain the fans with an attractive, high-energy style of football.
“I’m looking forward to working with all the players, coaches, staff and fans to bring success back to Glory and Western Australia.”
Zdrilic believes that the 1.89m new recruit will add significant physicality, composure and experience to the heart of Glory’s defence.
“Lachie is a quality centre-back and a great character,” he said.
“Strong in the air and happy to put his body on the line, he is also an intelligent distributor of the ball and someone that our younger defenders will benefit from training and playing alongside.”
Those sentiments were echoed by Lazaridis.
“A cornerstone of our off-season recruitment strategy has been to bolster our backline and securing Lachie’s services does exactly that,” he said.
“He’s a front-foot defender, a leader on and off the pitch and he’s hungry to make a big impact for Glory this season.”
A former Adelaide United youth team player, Barr headed overseas in 2016, initially playing for FC Internationale Berlin 1980 in Germany before securing a contract with English side Bradford City.
Following a subsequent loan spell at fellow-Yorkshire club Harrogate Town, he returned to Australia where he represented MetroStars and Adelaide City in the NPL SA and Heidelberg United in the NPL Victoria.
The defender’s impressive form at NPL level led to him being re-signed by Adelaide United in 2021 and he went on to make 35 appearances and score three times for the Reds, with one of those goals coming against Glory in January 2023.
The following players are now under contract for 2024/25: Oli Sail, Cameron Cook, Robbie Cook, Josh Risdon, Riley Warland, Anas Hamzaoui, Lachlan Barr, Kaelan Majekodunmi, Andriano Lebib, Zach Lisolajski, Jacob Muir, Luke Bodnar, Jarrod Carluccio, Trent Ostler, Mustafa Amini, Brandon O’Neill, Nicholas Pennington, Taras Gomulka, Jaylan Pearman, Will Freney, Khoa Ngo, Joel Anasmo, Adam Bugarija, Adam Taggart, David Williams, Nathanael Blair, Abdelelah Faisal.
Further squad announcements will be made shortly.
