PGFC Academy Under-18s Head Coach Will Cruz has hailed the selfless approach of his young charges ahead of Sunday’s State Cup Final clash with Bayswater City at Inglewood Stadium (kick-off at 9am).
The 18s have dominated in the league this season, winning 15 and drawing two of their 17 games to date, while scoring 72 goals in the process.
A host of their players have also featured in the Academy First Team, including the likes of Alex Da Rocha, Daniel Bennie, Joel Anasmo and Jaylan Pearman and Cruz believes it is the mental approach of his squad which has provided the basis for their success.
“The attitude of the boys makes match preparation so easy,” he said.
“They’re the best group I’ve ever coached and they’ve shown from day dot that they can deliver.
“They’ve all been fantastic and I couldn’t single anyone out; it’s been a total team effort.
“Every week, someone else steps up and the biggest thing is that all the boys have this attitude where they want to see each other do the very best they can and make each other look good.
“I told the boys from day one that my job is to prepare them for First Team football; that’s my number one priority.
“To see so many boys get that opportunity throughout the season is exactly what I want to see from the squad.”
In terms of Sunday’s game, meanwhile, Bayswater are the only side to have taken points off Glory in the league this season and Cruz is certainly not underestimating the challenge the Nerazzurri will provide.
“We’ve got a healthy respect for Bayswater and we know that they’re a very well organised team,” he said.
“We know it’s going to be a tight game, but at the same time, it’s something that we’re looking forward to and the boys are very excited.
“I’m excited too and I just wish the game was today!
“I know the boys are going to give everything and I just can’t wait.”
Do get along and support the lads on Sunday if you can and please note that due to the Cup action, there are no NPL WA games for the PGFC Academy First Team or Under-20s this weekend.
