Melbourne City maintained their perfect start to the Westfield W-League season with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Perth Glory at Ashfield Reserve on Saturday.
Former Glory players Marianna Tabian and Lisa De Vanna both found the back of the net in the first half before Larissa Crummer scored a brace in the second to secure City’s third win from as many matches.
Returning Matildas quartet De Vanna, Crummer, Laura Alleway and Steph Catley strengthened an already imposing City side while goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and captain Sam Kerr were back in action for Glory, but speedy forward Caitlin Foord was absent with a hamstring injury.
Tabain netted her third goal in as many matches when she volleyed a brilliant low cross from De Vanna in the 12th minute.
De Vanna added her name to the scoresheet eight minutes later heading the ball past Arnold following another great cross, this time from Catley on the left.
Glory midfielder Shannon May had the best chance for the home side, but her long-range attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Any hopes of a Glory comeback were put to bed when a midfield turnover resulted in De Vanna drawing out Arnold from her goal before knocking the ball into the path of Crummer for the easiest of finishes.
Crummer completed the scoring rout in the 64th minute when she once again caught Arnold out of position and effortlessly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head.
Kerr fought valiantly to find a consolation goal for Glory, twice hitting the crossbar and was also denied by some top goalkeeping from Trudy Burke.
City will attempt to make it four from four against Canberra United at Central Coast Stadium next Sunday while Glory will look to bounce back against Sydney FC at Lambert Park on the same day.
