Captain Kerr Confident against table-toppers City

Perth Glory Women captain Samantha Kerr will return to Westfield W-League action today after missing the first home game of the season last week due to Matildas duty in China.

Glory could only muster a draw against the Newcastle Jets without the star striker and fellow Matildas Mackenzie Arnold and Caitlin Foord but Kerr believes there’s plenty of positives for the team to build on.

“There’s a lot of things that we thought we could improve on as a team and obviously you take two strikers out of any team and it’s going to impact the team but we’ll be back this week and hopefully we can score some goals,” said the Fremantle born striker.

With Kerr, Arnold and Foord back in the squad the confidence among the group will be boosted as they face top of the table Melbourne City.

“Us three being in the national team they look up to us. It’s good to have everyone together as a team and it’s just good to have us back because we see the girls, a bit of a buzz when we do come back, so I think they’re happy we’re back and we’re happy to be back.”

“Playing on the world stage obviously gives you a lot of experience, a lot of confidence, but I hope that’s something I can bring back and put into the girls, a little confidence.”

And despite City’s early-season form, Kerr is confident Glory have enough quality of their own to leap over the Melbourne club on the ladder.

“They’ve got a lot of firepower up top and they’re a good team. But we don’t fear them at all. We think we’re a great team and we think we can go with them.”

The match kicks off at 4pm today at Ashfield Reserve, with first place on the line.
