The Coyne brothers, Chris and Jamie are set to come face-to-face this Saturday night when Sydney FC comes to town for the match of the round.
With Perth Glory third and Sydney FC fourth, the game at nib Stadium will see the two brother cross paths on the football field for the first time.
“Hopefully if selected, I’ll see him at the back post and there’ll be no quarter given because we were both competitors growing up and it will be exactly the same if we play against each other,” Chris said.
“We’ll shake hands before the game and have a chat afterwards, but during that 90 minutes there’ll be nothing given.”
It-s a rivalry the brothers have always shared with the battle lines drawn when they were kids.
“We kicked the living daylights out of each other in the back garden,” Chris added.
“We’re both looking forward to it. I was lucky enough to catch up with him and his newborn son last Wednesday, we spoke about it but there’ll be nothing given, we-ll be going out to win and that-s all that matters.”
For their father John, a former Socceroo, it will also be the first time he-ll be in the position of seeing his two sons against each other in a competitive game.
“I think he’ll be sitting on the fence, I-m not even sure if he’ll make it on Saturday to be honest.
“He will be impartial, he’ll want us both to win, so I mean i suppose he can-t lose at least, at least he’ll get three points off one of us this weekend,” Chris concluded.
