Bramwell brace secures winning start for Academy Firsts

Bramwell brace secures winning start for Academy Firsts

Ciaran Bramwell grabbed both goals as the PGFC Academy First Team started their 2022 NPL WA campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory over Inglewood United at Inglewood Stadium.

Having missed last week’s Round One fixture due to COVID-19 within the group, the youngsters were clearly keen to get their season underway on Saturday and hit the front inside the opening 20 minutes.

Jacob Muir picked out Bramwell with an inch-perfect long ball and he calmly found the net with a crisp, first-time finish.

Ten minutes later, Glory doubled their lead, Tyler Vecchio slipping the ball into the box and Bramwell timing his run perfectly to stay onside before crashing another unstoppable shot past Alex Dunn in the home goal.

Inglewood were unable to find a way back into the game until four minutes from time when Chad Nilson’s cross from the left eventually found its way to substitute Thiak Kuel who stabbed home from close range.

Harry Evans then fizzed a free-kick narrowly over the bar for the hosts in stoppage-time, but Glory were not be denied a deserved three-point haul.

The victory completed a clean sweep for the senior Academy teams on the day, with the Under-18s winning 5-2 and the Under-20s cruising home 9-0.

The First Team return to NPL WA action on Friday by hosting Floreat Athena at Crazy Domains Stadium at Hartfield Park with kick-off at 7.30pm.

The Under-18s and Under-20s, meanwhile, will face the same opponents at the same venue on Saturday, with the games starting at 9am and 11am respectively.
