Armadale prove too strong for youngsters

The PGFC Academy First Team went down 5-2 to Armadale SC in their latest NPL WA outing, despite taking an early lead through Bryce Bafford at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

The hosts duly hit back to establish a 3-1 lead and although Jack Painter-Andrews’ emphatic strike just before the hour-mark gave Glory hope, the loss of Josh Rawlins to a red card dealt them a major blow and Armadale added a further two goals against the ten men.

The result leaves Richard Garcia’s side in tenth spot on the NPL WA ladder, five points off the top six.

Glory made the best possible start to the game, Charlie Leech and Bafford combining neatly to carve out an opportunity for the latter who calmly rolled the ball past Cyril Sharrock in the home goal.

Skipper Brian Patterson soon had Armadale level, however, rising highest at the near post to nod home a corner and a close-range finish from Pieter Jacobsz ensured that the hosts took a 2-1 lead into the half-time break.

Four minutes after the restart, Ali Nazary capitalised upon some hesitant Glory defending to make it 3-1, before the visitors replied via Painter-Andrews who capped a sweeping move by crashing the ball into the roof of the net from 12 metres out.

That was as good as it got for Glory, however, as Jacobsz soon grabbed his and Armadale’s fourth of the afternoon and after Josh Rawlins picked up a second yellow card, seemingly for dissent, Roberto De Freitas Soares headed number five.

In the day’s other games, meanwhile, Glory’s Under-18s and Under-20s both picked up maximum points courtesy of respective 3-0 and 6-3 wins.

All three teams return to NPL WA action next Saturday when Ingelwood United will provide the opposition at 1620 Capital Stadium, Hartfield Park, with the games kicking off at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
