Aquino and Lowry rewarded for stellar seasons with Australia U-23 selection

Perth Glory duo Morgan Aquino and Hana Lowry have been rewarded for their stellar performances in purple during the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season with a call-up to the Australia Under-23 squad.

Melissa Andreatta’s young Aussies will participate in the Four Nations Tournament in Växjö, Sweden later this month, taking on the host nation (29th May), Germany (1st June) and Poland (4th June).

Aquino has been selected for the first time having been named ALW Goalkeeper of the Year, PFA Goalkeeper of the Year and taken out Glory’s Members’ and Players’ Player of the Year Awards at last week’s Most Glorious Player event.

Midfielder Lowry, meanwhile, took out the Most Glorious Player Award after another superb campaign in which she played every minute of every game.

Coach Andreatta is excited to see how her charges, 21 of whom played in the ALW last season, will match up against top-class opposition.

“This is a squad of players that have put their hand up for this fantastic opportunity to play high-quality nations through their performances in the recent A-League Women and European football seasons,” she said.

“That 10 of the 12 A-League clubs are represented speaks to the evenness of the competition this season and is recognition of the developmental work that is being undertaken week in and week out.

“Excitingly, with this roster there are a significant number of players that are in-form and showing high potential to be a future CommBank Matilda.

“Now it is about taking this opportunity to challenge and test themselves against some of the best in Europe, which has been at the global forefront of women’s football development in recent years.”
