Recognising the importance and loyal support by its fans, Perth Glory today demonstrated its appreciation by ‘giving’ the shirt back to its fans.
For the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League Season, the number 12 shirt will not be registered to a player but rather be listed as ‘Glory Fans’ when the squad is announced on match days.
In a further sign of paying tribute to the fans for their wonderful support of Perth Glory, all fans will be given the chance to create a phrase or name for the No. 12 shirt during the season.
This is the first time in the A-League that fans have been handed this power and supporters are encouraged to send in their slogan ideas via email, facebook or twitter.
Voting for ideas will close just prior to the first home game on Sunday, 27th October at 2 p.m.
Fans will then have a week to vote on a winner from a selection of the Top 5 on perthglory.com.au.
Voting will close on Monday, 4th November with the No.12 shirt being unveiled prior to Perth’s third home game of the season against Adelaide United on Saturday, 16th November.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for all supporters of Perth Glory,” General Manager Anthony Radich said.
“This is another example of Western Australian football fans being actively involved in the game and creating an atmosphere like no other.”
“They really do ‘power the game- and add to the drama of football so what better way to involve them then by making them the 12th man,” he added.
