ALW Match Report: Glory unable to silence Roar at Perry Park

Glory were unable to build upon last weekend’s victory over Newcastle as they went down 3-0 in Friday’s Ninja A-League Round 3 clash with Brisbane Roar at Perry Park.

Matildas midfielder Tameka Yallop claimed two of the home side’s goals, finding the net with a fine solo effort after seven minutes before tucking away a second-half penalty either side of a long-range lob from Tamar Nevin.

The result leaves Glory with three points from three games, two of which have been on the road, ahead of next week’s Unite Round meeting with Canberra United in Sydney.

On a a cloudy evening in the Queensland capital, the visitors struggled to gain a foothold in the contest after Yallop fired Roar in front, cutting in from the left and slamming a fierce shot into the top corner.

That setback was compounded just six minutes later when Nevin doubled her side’s lead with an audacious chip from fully 40m out.

Izzy Dalton did flash a low shot narrowly wide midway through the first half as Glory attempted to force their way back into the game and Kelli Brown also went close during a goalmouth scramble immediately after the restart.

But Brisbane all but sealed their second successive win on the hour mark when Miranda Templeman was adjudged to have clipped substitute Sharn Freier as she burst into the box and Yallop calmly converted the resulting penalty.

Glory battled hard to claim a consolation during an increasingly ill-tempered final half-hour, but it was not to be as a well-organised Roar side held them at bay.
