Academy First Team stay unbeaten after stirring comeback

The PGFC Academy First Team staged a dramatic second-half comeback to maintain their unbeaten start to the NPL WA season with a 3-3 draw against Bayswater City at Frank Drago Reserve on Saturday.

Trailing 3-0 at the break and seemingly destined for a first defeat of the campaign, the youngsters instead roared their way back and swiftly reduced the arrears courtesy of a Laat Mathiang penalty.

Further goals from Jayden Gorman and Jaylan Pearman completed a remarkable recovery which means the Academy First Team remain top of the embryonic NPL WA table after three rounds.

Next up for John Walmsley’s side is a trip to Dorrien Gardens on Saturday where they will meet a Perth SC outfit which lost for the first time this season at the weekend when they were downed 1-0 at home by Cockburn City.

There were plenty of goals in the other senior games played at Frank Drago Reserve on Saturday, with the PGFC Academy Under-18s winning 4-3 (Sollitt, Flored, Johnson, Baker) and the Under-20s also claiming maximum points via a 4-1 scoreline (Despotovski 2, Bonelli, Hewings).

Those results leave both sides top of their respective tables with a 100% record this term.

Next Saturday’s action against Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens gets underway at 11am with the Under-18s, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.
