Academy First Team set for top-of-the-table clash

The PGFC Academy First Team will claim at least a share of top spot in the NPL WA table if they manage to get the better of Perth Red Star on Saturday.

In what is shaping up to be an intriguing clash at RedStar Arena (ECU Joondalup Campus, kick-off at 3pm), John Walmsley’s side will be aiming to build upon last weekend’s dramatic 5-4 win over Cockburn City at Lark Hill.

They will, however, be without the services of Lucas Cook who will serve a one-match suspension having been red carded for time wasting in the latter stages of that victory over the Cockerels.

RedStar, meanwhile, head into the fixture having enjoyed back-to-back wins over Armadale SC and Balcatta Etna, during which striker Daryl Nicol has taken his league-highest goal tally to eight.

Nicol’s impressive return has helped establish RedStar as the competition’s joint-top-scorers this term alongside Glory, with both teams having plundered 18 goals in six outings.

Ahead of the First Team game, the PGFC Academy Under-18s will be seeking a seventh win from as many games which would cement their position at the top of the table (kick-off at 11am) and the Under-20s could also claim pole position should they collect three points (kick-off at 1pm).
