Academy First Team roar back to winning ways

The PGFC Academy First Team roared back to winning ways on Saturday with a thrilling 6-3 victory over Bayswater City at Lark Hill.

Matthew George was front and centre throughout, helping himself to a hat-trick, with Glory’s other goals coming from Josh Anasmo, Joel Anasmo and Jayden Gorman.

In an unforgettable contest which ebbed and flowed throughout, George opened the scoring inside the first five minutes as he carved his way into the box before slamming a shot into the top corner.

1-0 swiftly became 2-0, this time Joel Anasmo cutting in from the left and beating City ‘keeper Casey Robertson, before former Glory man Andrew Maranta almost immediately pulled one back for the visitors.

Josh Anasmo duly took advantage of some hesitant defending to restore his side’s two-goal lead just before the break, only for Jon Stynes and Gordon Smith to both find the net in the space of three second-half minutes to make it 3-3.

From there, however, Glory took control, restoring their lead via an intricately-worked goal from George who then completed his treble with a fantastic, left-foot effort from outside the box which kissed the crossbar on its way in.

And further gloss was added to the scoreline five minutes from time when Gorman posted his own entry for goal of the week by curling in a stunning strike from 20 metres out.

The result lifts the Academy First Team up to eighth in the table, just four points behind second-placed Perth RedStar.
