Academy First Team roar back to winning ways

The PGFC Academy First Team roared back to winning ways in the NPL WA on Saturday, downing nine-man Armadale SC 5-1 at a rainswept Alfred Skeet Reserve.

Daniel Bennie, Lucas Cook, Aiki Tsukamoto, Alex Da Rocha and skipper Chris Donnell all found the net after Angel Andres Rivera had given the hosts the lead.

Andres Rivera saw red shortly after scoring his side’s opener on the half-hour mark and Armadale’s afternoon went from bad to worse when Adriano Jelenovic also received his marching orders just before the break.

Bennie’s first-half effort saw him apply a spectacular finish via the underside of the bar having timed his run in behind to perfection and there was also plenty to like about Cook’s curling free-kick which put Glory in front shortly before the hour-mark.

To their credit, the undermanned home side dug deep to stay in the game and it wasn’t until four minutes from time that Kenny Lowe’s youngsters struck again, Joel Anasmo leading a break which culminated in Tsukamoto’s low shot finding the net.

3-1 became 4-1 in stoppage-time, substitute Da Rocha picking out the bottom corner after a goalmouth scramble and with almost the last kick of the game, Donnell rounded out the victory with a composed finish.

The day’s other games saw the Under-18s cement their place at the top of the table with a 5-1 win, the in-form Elmar Dzamastagic grabbing two of the goals, while the Under-20s suffered their first defeat of the season as they went down 3-1.

All three teams return to action next Saturday when Perth SC will provide the opposition.

The games will be played at E&D Litis Stadium, not Dorrien Gardens, with kick-off times of 11am (U18s), 1pm (U20s) and 3pm (First Team).
