Academy First Team kick off with dramatic win

The PGFC Academy First Team kicked off the new NPL WA Season with a dramatic 2-1 win over Balcatta Etna FC at Grindleford Reserve on Saturday.

John Walmsley’s side found themselves trailing with 20 minutes left after Danny Douglas was penalised for a foul in the box and Kotaro Yamamoto tucked away the resulting penalty.

But a stunning Laat Mathiang free-kick soon drew the youngsters level and deep into stoppage-time, Corey Sutherland continued his impressive form in front of goal by steering home the winner from close range.

The victory completed a clean sweep for the PGFC Academy senior teams on the day, with the Under-18s winning 6-0 (Louis Sollitt (4), Maxim Uvarov, Chulu Johnson) and the Under-20s enjoying a similarly emphatic 6-2 victory (Seb Despotovski 3, Daniel Adesina (2), Abdulla Dofash).

The youngsters return to action on Saturday at the club’s new senior Academy home venue of Lark Hill (Rockingham City FC).

Armadale SC will provide the opposition, with the Under-18s getting things underway at 11am, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.
