Academy First Team held at Armadale

Academy First Team held at Armadale

The PGFC Academy First Team created the better chances but were unable to find a way through a resolute Armadale SC defence as the two sides battled out a 0-0 draw at Alfred Skeet Reserve in Saturday’s NPL WA clash.

The visitors could have taken the lead as early as the third minute, Ciaran Bramwell racing clear on goal only to drag his shot wide of the post and Aidan Edwards was also unable to hit the target from a similar position, the lively midfield blazing over having capitalised upon a slip from Ryan McEvoy.

In between those chances, however, Glory were grateful to Cameron Cook who made an outstanding block from Vladimir Naumovski’s point-blank header.

Charlie Leech was just unable to steer the ball home as Glory duly continued to probe away and the striker had a penalty appeal turned down early in the second half after his strike appeared to strike the hand of an Armadale defender.

Edwards was next to go close for the visitors as his effort was cleared off the line and from the ensuing corner, a fine save was required from home ‘keeper Yousri Gharsallah to keep out Jack Andrews’ header.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side pressed right until the final whistle but were ultimately unable to secure the victory which would have moved them to within four points of the top four.

In the day’s other games, meanwhile, the Under-18s and Under-20s both secured maximum points courtesy of respective 1-0 and 7-1 victories.

Those results leave the Under-18s in fourth spot and the Under-20s in third.

All three teams return to NPL WA action on Saturday (26 June) away at Floreat Athena with the Under-18s getting underway at 11am, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First Team at 3pm.
