Academy First Team edged out by Stirling

The PGFC Academy First Team were edged out by Stirling Macedonia in Friday’s NPL WA clash at Crazy Domains Stadium at Hartfield Park, with Hristijan Jankuloski claiming what proved to be the only goal of the game nine minutes before half-time.

Glory had run out 3-0 winners in the corresponding fixture back in April, but found the Lions’ defence much tougher to break down on this occasion and when Matt George did manage carve out a shooting opportunity on the half-hour mark, James Bosdet made a fine save low to his left.

Moments later, it was the men in red who hit the front as the Glory backline were unable to clear a corner and Jankuloski thumped home the loose ball from close range.

Another former PGFC Academy representative, Michael Domfeh, was then prevented from claiming a second for Stirling by a fine, one-on-one block from Adrian Sinagra midway through the second half.

The Glory ‘keeper was called into action again in the latter stages, this time to keep out a firm effort from Asher Nelson, while at the other end, the visitors held firm to secure their seventh win of the season.

There was better news for the Under-18s and Under-20s on Saturday, both of whom recorded impressive 3-0 victories to retain top spot in their respective leagues.

All three sides face an away trip to Armadale next up on Saturday, with the games getting underway at Alfred Skeet Reserve at 11am (U18s), 1pm (U20s) and 3pm (First Team).

Ahead of that, the Under-18s are in State Cup Semi-Final action on Tuesday evening when they face Murdoch University Melville FC at Besteam Stadium (Murdoch Uni Synthetic A) at 7.30pm.
