Academy First Team downed at Dorrien

The PGFC Academy First Team’s latest NPL WA outing ended in defeat as they went down 4-1 to Perth SC at Dorrien Gardens.

The youngsters found themselves trailing to goals from Michael Domfeh and Bojan Radinovic at the break, with Thomas Southgate duly making it 3-0 midway through the second half.

And although Royie Rahamim came off the bench to reduce the arrears six minutes later, any hopes of a late Glory comeback were extinguished by a fourth goal for the hosts from Aleks Jovic.

Richard Garcia’s side began the game brightly, with Ciaran Bramwell and Charlie Leech both going close, but they were dealt a blow just short of the half-hour mark when a high ball into the box prompted a goalmouth scramble and ex-Glory man Domfeh pounced to find the net from close range.

Radinovic’s thumping header duly doubled Perth SC’s lead and it was another back-post headed effort, this time from Southgate that made it 3-0.

When Bryce Bafford got in behind the home defence and squared for Rahamim to sweep the ball into the net, Glory looked to be back in the contest, but a well-taken effort from Jovic five minutes from time instead made the points safe for Ramon Falzon’s charges.

The result leaves the youngsters in tenth spot on the NPL WA ladder, but still only two points adrift of the top six.

In Saturday’s other games, meanwhile, the Under-18s lost 3-1 and the Under-20s fought out a 1-1 draw.

All three teams will return to action on Saturday when they head to Alfred Skeet Reserve to take on Armadale.

The Under-18s will get things underway at 11am, followed by the Under-20s at 1pm and the First at 3pm.
