Academy First Team all set for NPL WA season-opener

The PGFC Academy First Team will make a later-than-expected start to their NPL WA 2022 campaign this Saturday by taking on Inglewood United at Inglewood Stadium (kick-off at 3pm).

The youngsters had been due to face Bayswater City in Round One last weekend, but a number of COVID-19 cases within the squad resulted in that game being postponed.

With PGFC Academy Head Coach Ruben Zadkovich and Under-20s Head Coach Chris Coyne now in charge of the club’s ISUZU UTE A-League side, Ago Mujic will take up the reins on a temporary basis this weekend and he will be keen to build upon the encouraging performances produced by what is a young group in the pre-season Night Series tournament.

With a host of last year’s Academy First Team regulars currently on A-League duty, including Cameron Cook, Giordano Colli, Adam Zimarino, Ciaran Bramwell and Josh Anasmo, those players who acquitted themselves so well in the Night Series are set to make up the bulk of Mujic’s squad on Saturday.

Inglewood, meanwhile, will come into the game in confident mood having secured an impressive 3-0 away victory over Balcatta in Round One.

Last season’s corresponding fixture saw the hosts run out 2-1 winners, although Glory subsequently avenged that defeat with a thumping 5-1 victory in Round 22 which ensured that they pipped United for a place in the Top Four Cup.

Ahead of the First Team game on Saturday, the Under-18s will be in action at 11am and the Under-20s at 1pm, so do get along and support the lads if you can.

Following the clash with Inglewood, the Academy First Team will return to NPL WA action on Friday (1st April) when Floreat Athena will provide the opposition at Crazy Domains Stadium at Hartfield Park (kick-off at 7.30pm, admission FREE for Glory Members).
