The PGFC Academy First Team suffered just their second defeat in 12 games on Saturday as Jordan Brown’s early goal secured a 1-0 win for Sorrento in a fractious NPL WA clash at Percy Doyle Reserve.
Brown fired an angled drive into the far corner with just four minutes on the clock and despite applying some concerted late pressure, Ruben Zadkovich’s side were unable to find a way through a rugged and uncompromising home defence.
Charlie Leech was foiled by onrushing ‘keeper Connor Campbell with 15 minutes left, having been played in by Ciaran Bramwell, while substitute Josh Anasmo was unfortunate to see a goalbound effort deflected wide right at the death.
Sorrento also had their chances, however, Jordan Roberts forcing Sam Reilly into action with a fierce left-foot strike early in the second half and Chris Jackson’s effort cannoning off a cluster of defenders and striking the bar in the 80th minute.
There were a number of flare-ups during what was a heated 90 minutes, with five Sorrento and two Glory players eventually receiving yellow cards from referee David Bruce.
The result sees Glory remain in fourth spot ahead of next Saturday’s home clash with Rockingham City (kick-off at 5pm).
In the day’s other games, meanwhile, the Under-18s enjoyed an impressive 5-2 win and the table-topping Under-20s also picked up three points, courtesy of a 2-0 victory.
Both sides return to action next weekend versus Rockingham City at Crazy Domains Stadium, the Under-18s kicking off at 1pm and the Under-20s at 3pm.
