Glory can today confirm that Nick D’Agostino will miss the club’s final two games of the regular season and potentially the Finals series, after once again being included in the Australia Under-23 squad.

The 23-year-old forward, who has scored five A-League goals this term, has travelled to Marbella, Spain where the Under-23s are set to play four friendlies as part of their preparations for this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Australia’s U-23 selection in Spain is being mentored by Seoul 1988 Olympian and current Young Socceroos Head Coach, Gary van Egmond, as well as National Technical Director and Joeys Head Coach, Trevor Morgan.

While in Marbella, Australia’s selection will play four friendlies, three of which will be contested against nations that have also qualified for the men’s football tournament at Tokyo 2020.

First up is Republic of Ireland on Wednesday,  followed by Saudi Arabia on June 5, Romania on June 8 and Mexico on June 12 (local time).

While naturally disappointed to have lost D’Agostino’s services, Glory Head Coach Richard Garcia is extremely pleased for the player himself.

“Just as we were when Chris Ikonomidis was named in the Socceroos squad last week, everyone at the club is very proud of Nick and delighted to see him being given a chance pursue his Olympic dreams,” he said.

“It is fantastic that another Glory player is gaining international recognition and we wish him and the rest of the Under-23s all the very best both in these games and in Tokyo later in the year.”
