“We’re going to do our utmost to win silverware”.
That was the strong message from Liam Reddy when he fronted the media ahead of the Glory squad’s first full run-out on the training track since the COVID-19 crisis brought the Hyundai A-League season to a halt in late March.
The experienced ‘keeper, who was in fine form prior to the enforced hiatus, noted that the group’s focus remains exactly the same as they start their preparations for next month’s resumption of the 2019/20 campaign.
“We’ve got a good four weeks in [training] now to build on what we’ve done through the year and we’re going to do our utmost to win silverware,” he said.
“That’s been our plan from day one of pre-season when we came in and that hasn’t changed.
“I think we’re fortunate that we have six [regular-season games] games so that we can get ourselves fit and into really good form heading into the semi-finals.”
Reddy went on to dismiss suggestions that spending potentially up to five weeks away from home in a New South Wales hub will hinder Glory’s chances of building upon last year’s Premiership success.
“We travel every second weekend anyway,” he said, “and this year we were going to have ACL [Asian Champions League] which would have involved travelling away from home for up to two weeks.
“It’ll be a little harder being away a bit longer, but my kids understand that I think I have the best job in the world and that I might have to go away from time to time.
“I think my wife will be pleased actually!”
And he added that he and his teammates were simply delighted at the prospect of returning to action.
“Everyone’s excited to be back,” he said.
“It’s been a long break and a tough break, but everyone’s got smiles on their faces and we’re looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“There was a lot of anxiety in the group, but we’ve got past that now.
“It was a tough little period to get through, but by the look of the smiles on the lads’ faces, everyone is in really high spirits.”
