Perth Glory has kicked off the New Year with an encouraging 1-1 draw away at ANZ Stadium against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

Adam Taggart was the hero for the Western Australians in the 14th minute after some neat link-up play with winger and man-of-the-match Chris Harold. Taggart broke free and burst down the flank to rifle his shot past Wanderers ‘keeper Jerrad Tyson into the back of the net.

Glory was resolute in defence for most of the game and had opportunities to double its lead, however, the hosts were able to equalise in the second ’45 through Jaushua Sotirio, who beat the off-side trap.

Perth skipper Rostyn Griffiths had a chance to close the deal for Glory in the dying minutes of the match but his shot narrowly missed the post.

Glory moves up to fifth spot on the Hyundai A-League ladder, after starting the match in sixth on the back of a pulsating 3-3 draw against Melbourne City on Tuesday night.

Perth will host Wellington Phoenix on Thursday, January 5 at nib Stadium, in the second round of the Long Distance Derby.
