Glory’s Westfield W-League players and staff were guests of honour at the Parliament of Western Australia last week as part of an educational initiative in which football plays a key role.

Players Abbey Meakins, Jamie-Lee Gale, Hana Lowry, Isabella Wallhead, Morgan Aquino, Leticia McKenna, Jenna Onions and Alexia Moreno, plus staff members Bobby Despotovski, Lauren Giovannangelo and Callum Salmon were greeted by Madam President, the Honourable Kate Doust and then given a fascinating, behind-the-scenes tour of the chambers.

The visit was part of efforts by the Parliament of Western Australia’s Parliamentary Education Office to promote its recently-developed range of teaching resources which are utilised throughout Western Australian schools in the delivery of civics and citizenship.

In the workbooks, football has been incorporated as the vehicle by which to explain how laws are made in Western Australia.

The two teenage girls who appear in the four-book Year 7 and 8 series are called Elsie and Ellay and there is a tie-in to the upcoming 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Look out for it at your local school soon!
